This project is a proposal for innovation that through training, accompaniment and research, aims to help older people living in IASS residences to develop their life project in spaces that ensure their dignity and rights, maintaining the meaning of their day to day life as they have done in their own homes.

To this end, within the framework of this pilot project, the aim is to accompany the 9 IASS centres selected with the aim of implementing 20 cohabitation units and to make progress in People-Centred Care as an ethical model in care environments.

Aims

  • To advance in the definition of a model of good care that, from the perspective of the people accompanied, provides comprehensive guidance and the transformation of the current model of residential care.
  • To generate relevant knowledge in relation to issues of great importance in the context of progress in which we find ourselves, related to aspects of good treatment in daily life, significant environments and environments, key organisational aspects and organisational culture.
  • We will work on the integration of residential centres in the community and their value as a relevant service in the support of home care, supporting the prevention of unwanted institutionalisation.

Methodology

It is proposed to use a participatory methodology approach, which will enable the co-creation of solutions for the change of organisational culture in accordance with the reality of each centre and unit, with three lines of action:

  • Initial training on People-Centred Care (PCA), continuous training developed together with accompaniment in each of the cohabitation units and online training on the Matia Eskola platform.
  • Accompaniment. Participatory process for the implementation of cohabitation units and progress towards PCA. Different working groups operating at different levels drive the change with the accompaniment of Matia during the process.
  • Research/Evaluation. This is carried out in order to know the context and initial situation and thus be able to see the progress made in each Coexistence Unit.
