The existing model of care currently does not meet the life expectations of most seniors. It does not take their interests, desires, rights or capabilities into account and does not address their diversity or preferences.
Ainara Tomasena earned a degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Zaragoza in 2002. In 2003 she earned her Masters in Social Gerontology.
She has worked as an occupational therapist in gerontology centres, Osakidetza and the Department of Education of the Basque Government.
Since 2007 she has been working at the Matia Institute. She has participated in processes of active ageing, social participation, learning throughout life, intergenerational programmes and projects related to the accessibility and adequacy of environments. She is currently working on the Euskadi Lagunkoia programme initiated by the Department of Employment and Social Policy of the Basque Government.
