The main objective of this project is to guide training strategies and develop training curricula for care professionals in Costa Rica, Colombia and Uruguay, from a person-centred care approach. The aim is to professionalise the task of care by improving professional training, complementing traditional career paths with a person-centred approach, favouring labour insertion in order to respond to market needs and contributing to the transformation of care services and the support they provide.

In order to achieve the main objective, the following operational objectives have been developed:

  • To establish the starting point of each country in relation to the training of care professionals, its relation to the care situation and to the context of long-stay facilities.
  • To learn about international experiences and good practices in training and capacity building for the provision of professional care.
  • To establish training competences on the basis of the perceived needs of caregivers, those receiving support and their families, and those providing the training.
  • Develop training curricula and curricular training strategies that take into account national and international good practices and adaptation to the context of the participating countries and their needs.
  • To incorporate relevant agents from each country, with the capacity to promote the implementation of the curricula and strategies developed, throughout the process and to contrast with them and other experts in the field, on an ongoing basis, the findings that are generated throughout the process.
  • To disseminate the work carried out in order to publicise its results and promote its development.

In order to carry out this project, a working team has been set up comprising national consultants from Costa Rica, Colombia and Uruguay and international consultants (researchers from Matia Instituto) who, in a joint and coordinated manner, and in permanent contact with the funding bodies, have been carrying out the tasks described above.

This research is part of the project "Management of Day and Long Stay Centres in the new reality generated by COVID-19" (BID: ATN/OC-18458-RG).
