The COVID-19 pandemic has constituted a socio-healthcare, ethical and legal challenge that some people doubt we have been able to meet as a society with the most vulnerable. What has happened and what needs to be corrected? Have the elderly people been truly autonomous? Have the available socio-healthcare resources withstood the stress test of a respiratory-transmitted infection?

After years of working for the integration of people living in residential homes for the elderly and their families into the community, what has the restriction of mobility, visits and isolation meant for the elderly and their carers?

Our aim is to find out what has happened, our commitment is to lay the foundations so that this does not happen again.

Objectives

  • Improve knowledge about the consequences of confinement.
  • To learn about and reflect on ethical dilemmas.
  • To address the consequences of certain decisions on biological, psychological, social and environmental aspects.
  • To present the vision of person-centred care in pandemics.
  • To improve interdisciplinarity and personalised care based on respect and compassion.
  • To raise awareness among society and professionals in general about the negative discrimination they have suffered, as well as to reflect on the models of care and the care resources available, reflecting on possible areas for improvement.
