Palliative Care: The Family

Conference organized by ZarautzOn and Zarautz Herri Zaintzailea, in which our colleague Lori Thompson, Director of the psychosocial care team in Gipuzkoa, will give us an insight into the experience of families when they become caregivers for someone with an advanced chronic illness.

When a family member becomes ill and is at the end of their life, the entire family system is affected and forced to reorganize itself to adapt to the new situation. It involves learning new roles and tasks, an intense emotional experience, and a dedication of time and effort to cope with what often amounts to a family crisis.

From the perspective of care ethics and palliative care, we seek to highlight the work that families do in these situations.
