Population ageing is one of the most significant demographic trends of the 21st century, with far-reaching social and economic implications. The sustained increase in life expectancy, coupled with falling fertility rates, has led to increasingly ageing societies, presenting complex challenges but also opportunities.
This summer course at the Menéndez Pelayo International University aims to demonstrate how research and innovation in this field have evolved from predominantly health-based approaches towards more interdisciplinary perspectives, notably the social perspective. Concepts such as active, healthy, dignified and rights-based ageing occupy a central place on the political agenda of public authorities.
The course is open to anyone with an interest in the subject but is particularly aimed at social services professionals working with older people or those in need of care, staff from public administrations or private or non-profit organisations linked to or interested in the subject, members of the academic and research communities, and students of related disciplines.
