  Date:
23/04/2019
 Type: Course
Line of Knowledge: Active aging and friendliness
 Location: Online

This course aims to establish scientific knowledge from a multidisciplinary perspective. The specific objectives are:

  • To show ageing as a social and demographic reality on a global scale, which encourages many public policies to face the challenge of the ageing population.
  • To highlight ageing as a heterogeneous reality, which manifests diverse forms of ageing, one of which is active ageing.
  • To use a multidisciplinary approach that addresses the various dimensions through which ageing and old age can be measured.
  • To offer knowledge about old age from a gender perspective, highlighting the differentiated behaviours between men and women as a hallmark of social research studies.
  • To base quality of life as the ultimate reference point for good ageing.

From a methodological point of view, the course aims to complete the students' training by insisting on the development of fieldwork techniques and the management of scientific documentation, and on the interest of a multi-method approach. The structure of the content aims to show similarities and differences between the European and Latin American reality in the phenomenon of ageing and old age. The sessions follow the WHO Active Ageing model, including the areas of greatest social demand. Among these topics, emphasis is placed on loneliness, economic sustainability, the rights of older people, the image and stereotypes of old age, the specific situation of older women, and sexuality. The aim is to offer an updated perspective on the different dimensions of active ageing and quality of life, which also takes into account the cultural diversity between Spain and Latin America.
