9th Conference on European Best Practices in Friendliness

A new event organised by Euskadi Lagunkoia, the network of friendly municipalities in the Basque Country promoted by the Basque Government's Department of Welfare, Youth and Demographic Challenge, which aims to encourage the participation of older people and the general public in improving neighbourhoods and environments in the municipalities of the Basque Country so that we can continue to live our lives as we age.

The conference will take place on 12 November at the Palacio de Europa in Vitoria-Gasteiz, focusing on a highly topical issue: housing and intergenerationality.

During the meeting, we will be able to attend two round tables, the first on innovative intergenerational experiences with initiatives such as:

• Ametxe: Rural housing cooperative (Gordexola, Bizkaia).
• Axuntase: Intergenerational cohousing. (Llanera, Asturias).
• Calico: Care and Living Community. (Forest, Germany).

The second round table is entitled ‘Innovative senior experiences,’ where we will learn more about:

• Lugaritz. Housing for life (Donostia-San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa)
• Trabensol. Senior cohousing. (Torremocha del Jarama, Madrid)
• Huis Perrekes. Care homes for people with dementia. (Geel, Belgium).

The event will conclude with the presentation of the Lagunkoia 2025 Award and the presentation of materials for the challenge.
