The activities that elderly people perform throughout the day is a topic of growing interest in the gerontological field. This interest has traditionally been associated with a clinical approach that emphasises the ideas of health and autonomy. Only in recent years has the value and contribution of daily activities on the elderly, ageing person been highlighted.

Noting that the current care model in gerontology centres cannot successfully help all people meet their expectations of increasing and improving the quality of life of each of the different profiles, and taking into account care models from countries more experienced in the field, it is considered necessary to promote, based on the Life History of each person, the everyday activities that they have developed throughout their life at home.

Currently, in our country's nursing homes, there has been progress in establishing programmes of global and individualised intervention, where in addition to aspects of basic care and social integration, therapeutic rehabilitation aspects are considered, with programmes for psychostimulation, reeducation and maintenance of functional and cognitive abilities, plus care support programmes and preventive health programmes.
