The situation of home help service at the local level and future prospects

The overall objective of the research has been to update the knowledge of the situation of the SAD, since the latest data collected from local authorities are from 1995 (Porto and Rodríguez, 1996), and there are no records since then on its evolution and current characteristics.
The interest in this study increased when considering the hypothesis that the impact of this service may have such important phenomena as the economic crisis or the entry into force of the Law on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for People in Situations of Dependency (LAPAD), all in a context of growth in demand due to the enormous increase that the elderly population is experiencing, which is the majority recipient of SAD.
