1st Ageism Conference: “Towards age-friendly municipalities”
Ageism translates into a violation of rights and is generally expressed in the form of infantilization, depersonalization, and dehumanization of older people. In the current context, a coordinated social response is needed to tackle ageism, which must involve increasing visibility and commitment to combat ageism, as well as identifying institutional and social strategies and tools to address it.
This conference, organized by the Barcelona Provincial Council, focuses on this phenomenon in order to put it on the political and social agenda of municipalities and to commit to life-cycle policies that guarantee rights and non-discrimination.
Among the speakers at this meeting is Elena del Barrio, Director of Social Policies and Contexts at Matia Institute, who will participate in the round table discussion: “Rights and discrimination: how ageism affects us.”
